Almost went to bed without slicing.
Too sleepy to compose properly.
A morning slice worth capturing:
Elena loves boxes. She will find random stuff just to put things in a box.
After breakfast this morning, I offer her a small box that contained my new pregnancy shirts.
She did not care for it.
The box was dropped, or gently thrown (?) on the floor.
“Elena, that was not a good choice.”
Her arms dropped, head went down, and she walked away from me and into her room.
She’s done this before, so I looked through her bedroom camera and found her sitting against the wall, with her hand on her lap.
I waited.
50 seconds later, I see her stand and hear, “Mama, I wanna talk.”
We’ve done this before.
Quick repair, a loving hug, and back to morning routine.
I shared the funny anecdote with Tim via text, and then got on with my day. I thought, there’s my slice.
But as I write this now, with tired hands and the tiring glow of the phone’s screen, what I’m mostly thinking about is how much I pray she will always feel like she can talk to me.
Elena, if you’re 20 years old and reading this, would you please message me “Mama, I wanna talk”?
