“Yes” Moments

The view from my bedroom window shows a shining moon while the daylight stretches itself behind the building for just a few more minutes.

The abundant greenery of the nearby park stands almost parallel to the brick horizon of downtown Miami. The view reminds me of moments when I rush by this (and many other windows) and ignore what’s out there.

Tonight, even though I have clothes to put away, boxes to send to storage, and clutter to sort, I say yes to a few seconds right here:

I think of this as a slice: sit on the bed and quickly type it on my phone. “Yes” moments give me nuance; I can sway between what has to get done and the seconds I can spare to simply be. I don’t have to completely forget about dishes to enjoy myself. I can sometimes make space for both.

I can ignore the fact that it’s a bit past Elena’s bedtime and say Yes to a short balloon toss game. The giggles make it all worth it.

We can delay dinner and sit together on the counter, all three (sort of four!) of us, sharing pre-dinner chips and stories about our day. Yes, dinner will be prepped, but these few minutes also get their chance to be.

Somehow, I know I’ll remember that image of Tim, Elena, and a pregnant me sharing tortilla chips on a Tuesday evening. Of all the Tuesdays that will come and go, filed under the routine label, this one will stand out.

Now, the moment is over. Time to get back to night-niche chores.
