Today felt weird in many ways, so instead of waking up my thoughts through writing, I want to put them to bed with a quick list of what I should have sliced:
- One of the trees across from school is in full fiery orange bloom, and it reminds me of Maadi.
- Elena’s rear-facing rides are soon coming to an end. I can feel it. I wonder what it’ll be like for her to see that new perspective.
- The sudden rainbow I saw from the conference room during this morning’s interview.
- A parent meeting that made me think about why I love international teaching so much.
- This moment, right now, remembering a part of my day I don’t want to revisit.
- Being pulled into the 4th-grade classroom by a student who is eager to share his latest literary essay in Spanish.
- Being told by a lovely and impulsive 5th-grader that I need to dye my roots, while two of her classmates nod in agreement behind her.
- My ‘ck’ buddy stopping me in the hallway to add two new words to our list. 44 now.
- Working my work calendar and thinking that would be a good topic for a not-a-slice kind of blog post.
- The amazing crunch sounds of the cucumbers Elena and I had for dinner.
There. Now I collect my orange sticker.
