Two Lines & One Calendar

Every morning, I’d get up and smile at the sight of my calendar with a single column of orange stickers.

Not a Tuesday missed since January.

Then came June:

The first week was great, then, on Sunday, June 7th I went to breakfast with friends and life changed:

After a delicious meal, one of my friends told us she wanted to take a pregnancy test with us, and to have more fun, I said I’d take the other test that came in the box—the most unexpected and thrilling surprise.

I got the positive.

Once my conscience realized what was happening in my body, symptoms began and did not hold back. Any willingness to write went away, along with any willingness to do essentially anything else.

No more orange stickers for June.

I decided not to flip the page, keeping July hidden from sight while I navigated that eternal month with a toddler, who quickly experienced separation anxiety because I couldn’t get out of bed, and nonstop nausea and heartburn.

My husband is my forever hero.

Tonight, as I walk towards my closet to hang some clothes, I notice the calendar with its single dot. Still pretending it’s June, perhaps a magical moment to help me remember it’s Tuesday.

I’m still experiencing symptoms, but beyond that, I’m experiencing the urge to write again. So here goes; not the first Tuesday of the month, but a fine enough Tuesday to start again:

  1. So exciting! This is a perfect reason to resume telling stories. (Best of luck with that toddler/nausea juggling.) I love the idea of orange stickers to motivate, also. May all your Tuesdays be orange!

  2. Congratulations! One of the things I love about this community is that it is here when you can be! How fun that you will be able to chronicle this new baby’s journey!
