Thursday has always been kind to me.
I was born on a Thursday, back in the 80s.
Since becoming a mom, Thursdays are often hair-wash day, which means extra alone time to think. Thinking time in the shower is the best kind of thinking.
For a while, Thursday felt like a prime day for writing. After my first Slice of Life challenge, I used that drive to post something about teaching every Thursday.
It felt like the perfect not-quite-middle, but just-right weekday.
For the last few weeks, Thursday has held my Writing Group Zoom on the calendar. Tim does bedtime so I can connect with amazing people from this writing community.
We share smiles, anecdotes, ideas, and we write together. Words come pouring each time. I feel like I’m writing for them as much as I’m writing for myself.
I simply like Thursdays. I expect them to surprise me a bit—in whatever way they want to.
Thursday is also the day that Brené Brown and Adam Grant release new podcast episodes. And, as a loyal consumer of their content and devoted analyst of their ideas, I’m eager to see what they come up with now.
On Thursdays, I write my weekly memo to teachers. I step into one of their shoes to predict what they’ll need from me, while staying in my own to make sure they know what’s coming.
When I lived in Egypt, Thursdays were the last day of the week. They came with several opportunities to truly leave work back in the classroom. Thursday feels good for dinners with friends, happy hours on balconies, laughs over a few glasses of wine.
Thursday has always been kind to me.
Today is the last Thursday of March slicing.
Next Thursday, I may not be collecting orange stickers or checking which slices I want to read first. I may not be thinking about the magical flow of ideas through one’s body.
But I’ll know this: writing can always happen on a Thursday.
Thank you! Grounding, for sure! 🙂

Giovanna’s comment is perfect! Your slice really does share important parts and rituals of you. It makes sense as to why you love Thursdays, and I’ll see you later tonight!

Thank you, Ana, for being a part of my new Thursday tradition of writing in community. I love how this Thursday slice reveals small aspects of your relationship with a day; the memories just flow. It touches on rituals — like extra long showers — that we honour and look forward to and it exposes those things that add meaning to our lives. A reminder that regret, like the end of slicing for this month, often has a silver lining: it’s sad because it mattered. Thank you! P.s. I’m sorry to say I may have to miss tonight’s meeting! But I hope our Thursday tradition will continue into April!
