Here’s what happens when I don’t write before my day begins:
I may wake up with an idea or catch one early on, but don’t prioritize the time to write it down because:
- I sleep past my morning alarm
- Elena wakes up before the alarm goes off
- I get too distracted on Instagram
I admit it wasn’t the best choice, but move on with my morning, convincing myself there’s plenty of time in between meetings/other work-related stuff to write. Things look especially good when I check my calendar in the parking lot before heading to work, and boom, I see two 45-min slots no one booked for office hours.
My internal narrator kicks in:
You can have your slice ready by lunch. That will give you time to read and comment on many other slices.
Should we write about the Chrome Group Tabs idea that came up two days ago?
Yeah, I kinda want to see where that goes. No more grouped tabs!
If that doesn’t work, there’s always Elena’s cute car randomness.
I should also slice about the tiny panic attack I had at the carwash when the car in front of me stopped, and the one behind me pushed me forward. Final Destination, get out of my head!
Oh wait! Let’s text the slicers and see if anyone else wants to try a Tuesday slice!
We know where this is headed, right?
This isn’t about the Chrome Group Tabs, even though I started it! This also isn’t about Elena’s randomness, which I will jot down in my “March ideas” tab. It’s also not a slice about the carwash and how I should ignore the waving dude when he signals to come closer to the car in front of me—crazy man!
It’s a slice about the way a day can feel when you see it through writing eyes. So many moments felt worth capturing. Words, phrases, and symbols emerged from simple snapshots of my life. Moments that may have felt like normal life as lived, but later can peel off to reveal fresh ideas. When I see my days as a writer, life shimmers.
What could feel like a load, annoyance, or frustration can suddenly feel like an opportunity.

Shout out to several of my KLA Slicers who wrote and shared today!
These words are the absolute best ones to keep front and center, Ana: “It’s a slice about the way a day can feel when you see it through writing eyes. … When I see my day as a writer my life shimmers.” Perfectly said. Here’s to more writer’s days through writing eyes!

Life shimmers! I love that. I saw my day through writing eyes, too, but ended up writing something completely different!
