Six Minutes, One Slice: June PD Thoughts

I turned to the 6-minute flash draft + 3-minute edit strategy to write this slice. It was the best I could do after the day I had.

***

What if it’s not about writing?

What if we dive into reading instead? Would people have the energy to sit through three days of reading instruction PD in June? Do I?

If I’m being honest, I selfishly want to focus just on writing—for me and for some of my teacher friends who are on leave and deserve one last writing institute.

Should I make it optional? Would I end up on a writing date with three other people?

Am I taking them all for granted?

Why am I trying to change it at this point? Was it her comment about “wanting more intentional read-aloud PD?” Hmm, perhaps.

You know those words hooked up, like seeing a box full of donuts.

Hmm, chocolate glazed.

So, writing? Reading? Both?

We only have three half-days. I want to make the best of it for them and for myself. And no, I will not survey them again. Enough with the surveys.

We could write about read-aloud. I could bring back Jack, Jeremy, Fox, Cloe, Maya, and some of the others. They could join us, tell us their stories, and inspire some writing at the same time.

We’ll see. Soon enough.

  1. What a terrific stream of thought consideration of your professional growth offering. I love the hybrid idea, knowing that writing often arises form something I’ve read. Also, I use poetry for that a lot! So much can come, writing-wise, from so little.

  2. Love reading this reflection and the thoughfulness you have in planning for your colleagues. Anytime donuts show up in writing or real life, it’s a bonus!

  3. love the questioning and stream of thought here. I often write like that and it “gets the job done” for some brain dumping and processing as well. Love the donuts. Thanks for sharing.

  4. I love you. I love this — the passion, the self-awareness, the providing for others. I hope your ears have been ringing like crazy with all the good you accomplished in less than one year. Whatever you decide, it will be stellar. It always is 💕💕💕
