Elena’s asleep, finally!
I lie on the little couch on the floor until she drifts off.
Tip-toeing out of her room,
a silent victory—
Yay! Freedom!
But for how long?
Will it be an hour?
Maybe two?
I check the time and start the mental log.
No sleeping past 2 o’clock!
Do I try to get something done?
Start a load of laundry?
Indulge in a guilty snack?
Why don’t I take my own nap?
I could clean the kitchen,
or read more slices.
I could stare at the ceiling,
or watch Grey’s Anatomy.
I could judge myself for starting again,
but this is one of those series
that won’t give me a clean break!
But wait, is she still asleep?
Check the monitor, just in case.
That noise wasn’t hers; it was my indecision yapping away.
I lie on my bed, a victim of Meredith and Derek—
Pick me, choose me, love me.
I could be more productive than this!
I laugh at myself for being unable to decide,
so I return to her room.
She looks so peaceful.
I’m so glad we got this little couch thing.
My hips and this sleep regression don’t agree.
It’s just 1:30,
Perhaps I could squeeze in my own nap.
No, I cannot.
“Mama, wake up!”
those are some precious times as we watch our children sleep. I remember having to make those choices about packing the most into the times that I had when they napped. Nice poem format!

I didn’t see it that way when I wrote it! But how cool! Lol

Haha I am mostly caught up, but it’s hard not to miss the original gang. So I quit, go for months without watching and then start Season 1 👀

I love that you chose a poem as the format for this slice — it emphasizes the brevity of the nap and the short staccato of your “this or that” thoughts. Genius!

I used to fee so productive during nap time! Everyone would say I should sleep when the kids slept, but I used the time to catch up! You’re reminding me I need to catch up on Grey’s. I’ve watched all along but I’m a bit behind right now!
